Facebook Is No Longer Shadow Banning
How cool is that?!
Finally, marijuana is making a move in social media. For the longest time the word “Cannabis” and “Marijuana” were banned from spreading on Facebook and Instagram. Facebook had banned Cannabis content for the longest time. They we not allowing any marijuana-related posts or marijuana pages to reach out to anyone on Facebook. Cannabis Facebook pages were under a shadow ban. A “shadow ban” is the term used for when a user’s web resource–a social-media page or a web-forum post–isn’t deleted or blocked, but is only visible to the individual user. How sucky is that?
Caregivers, Dispensaries, cultivators, were not eligible to be visible to the public. That meant that if they were to post up some kind of article on Facebook, it wouldn’t reach to anyone, except to the Facebook followers. The National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA) took action and started a petition on behalf of all of us, to stop Facebook from censoring these pages and over 20k people signed it! Not to get anything confused, they only approved it in on Facebook. If you were to publish on Instagram they will probably shut your account down. Just make sure you don’t get ahead of yourself and start posting content and images that will make your account look bad. The war is still not over, marijuana is still looked at as a Type 2 Drug, but the battle of winning Facebook over was bittersweet. This is a huge movement that you will see throughout a lot of huge companies.
